Re: WELCOME! Introduce yourself.
Hi! I'm Josh the Superfluous, but this forum doesn't allow that many spaces or underscores. I do charity kid shows in Michigan. I also study and perform a great deal of close-up for friends and family. I take magic very seriously, but have a tendency to joke around. I'm at the point where I care very little about learning new tricks. I only buy props if something I'm developing could benefit from it, or if it's a fancy schmancy version of something I already do.
Nice to meet you,
-Josh

Re: WELCOME! Introduce yourself.
Hi,
My name is Matt Roberts and I'm a full-time professional magician and actor...true to the Robert Houdin quote!
Most of my work as a magician consists of corporate/banquet stand-up shows for adults and stand-up shows for family audiences. I was also the 2003 winner of the Rand Woodbury Illusion Design Contest through Andrew Mayne's 'Magic Radio Show.'
I'm also known as 'Magic Matt' on the national television program, 'Ribert and Robert's Wonderworld' where I design and perform magic segments that fit within each episode's theme.
As an actor, I hold a B.A. in Theater and work often in plays and musicals. I'm fortunate to currently be starring in the 2006-2007 national tour of Sesame Street LIVE: Elmo's Coloring Book.
I'm looking forward to being a part of the new forum!
Best,
Matt Roberts

Re: WELCOME! Introduce yourself.
Hello,
I'm Chris Richard. I've had a nearly lifelong interest in magic, but I grew up in a rather small town where another youngster close to my age became more or less the "official" magic kid. He went on to be a pretty well known pro. Rather than compete with the magic kid, I drifted into puppetry and community theater.
I've had a couple of "real jobs," primarily in graphic design/ printing/ publishing. Then somehow I ended up becoming a government employee: I'm the tourism director of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. (A Small Town With a Big History.) My wife and I also publish a local monthly magazine and are involved in Revolutionary War period re-enacting at the historic fort in our town.
This is where the magic comes back in. I'm currently developing a short colonial period act which I hope to perform locally from time to time. I'm trying to limit it to the types of magic that may have been performed in the 1770s, although I'm mixing in routines of more modern origin.
My performing character, DelMonico the Rare, is a rather self important, pseudo-Italian street performer who proudly claims to have given the name "The Cups and Balls" to that ancient, but previously untitled, routine.
My online magical influences are Bill Palmer and Whit Haydn.
And I enjoy the humor of Josh the Superfluous, but I don't know why. . .
--- "You know some of you are laughin', but there's people here tryin' to learn. . ." -Whit Haydn

Re: WELCOME! Introduce yourself.
Hello Everyone,
My name is Kyle Guthrie and I'm from here in the grand ol' city of Fresno, CA. I actually just arrived back home from performing magic at Rotary Storyland and Playland for their annual "Spooktacular" Event. It was fun getting to interact with the kids and see the smiles on their faces. Although it is not my usual clientel(sp), mainly I stick to close-up magic for adults at events such as cocktail parties, weddings, reunions, ect. I am a full time student at FCC and I am planning on transfering to UCI to study philosophy/pre-law with in the next year and a half. I currently have no job other than performing for people and have been involved in magic since the age of 13. I quit for about a year when I turned 17 and now at the age of 18 I am beginning to do some shows again. I will be turning 19 on the 13 of Nov. I love the art and really respect those who cherish it.
Hope I can add some profound insight and all around good times to the forum...
-Kyle

Re: WELCOME! Introduce yourself.
Hey,
Mark here. I joined the old HP board just as it was about to be put down. Glad to see it back and glad to see some familiar faces from. . . other places. I'm a full time elementary school teacher and a part time performer. Which basically means I do about three shows every weekday and a few on weekends for nine months out of the year. I really love close up and bizarre and am experiencing a revitalized fondness for playing cards.
Hope I have something worth contributing. Looks like a great group so far.
Mark

Re: WELCOME! Introduce yourself.
Hi,
I'm Dave Zimmerman, I am a has been professional magician from the 1970's who had to give it up to feed the family.
I have retired and now can do what I want to (If my wife lets me)
I have forgotten or lost the patter and the moves that made me so "Great" back in the 70's & 80's.
I am trying to put my brain back in gear and put together the old stick, but it's not that easy and I need alot of help.
I am looking for an Old card trick called "A Touch of Tarot" it was one of my favorites and I can't remember the moves.
Can anyone Help, I will purchase the instructions
