Lazy People and Crooks!

There are some unbelieveably lazy and crooked people in magic. I do my best to write really fine ads when I auction items. Most of you know who I am. So, it really irritates me when someone literally copies and pastes my ad copy PLUS my photo! See item #300112087457 on eBay from magicbyjohnlic. Then see my ad #280113552658. This guy has literally stolen my ad complete! I'm sure he's going to say "I didn't know you couldn't do that..." but that's baloney as my terms on the ad he cut and paste clearly states that no text or photos are to be used without permission. Anyway, I have reported it to eBay as a violation and the ad should be removed within 40 hours, but I just want magicians to know you can steal more than just stuff from people and absolutely none of it is acceptable.

So, please, if you're selling something take a few moments to write your own ad. If you really want to use my work, extend me the courtesy of asking. I can't promise I'll say 'yes,' (most likely yes to a photo and no to ad copy,) but it's the right thing to do.

Re: Lazy People and Crooks!

Well, my post was deleted from the Magic Cafe site. Gee, what a surprise. The moderators there don't seem to have a clue as to the meaning of their own motto: "magicians helping magicians." Seems every time somebody reports a scam or a seller who took the money and ran, they just delete the post. Who is that helping? Can we say, "the bad guy"?

I'll have more thoughts on this in another topic that I'll post when I return next week.

Oh, I also heard from magicbyjohnlic and he adivse me, as I suspected, that he didn't think there was a problem with it. He has now removed the photo and simply re-split the paragraphs. Unbelievable. And he advised me that Chance Wolf didn't have a problem with it. Duh....it's not Chance's ad copy! And, I'm sure Chance knew nothing of it until I advised him. He's a straight shooter.

Okay, take care. Let me hear from you.

Re: Lazy People and Crooks!

I want to be absolutely fair. As of this evening, the seller mentioned above has changed his ad and removed my copy and photo. Thanks very much.

I hope everyone knows that ad copy is a property and you cannot simply "lift" it. I wrote an in-depth series on writing an eBay ad and hope it gave everyone some kind of idea of how much time I put into most of them. Just taking it is outright wrong.

But, thanks to the seller for straightening it out, although it did take a few emails to finally get it my text completely removed.
